How to reduce scars after breast surgery?

breast scar

A breast cancer diagnosis often leads to surgery. Sometimes a mastectomy, other times breast-conserving surgery. Whichever path you take, it’s one of the most physically and emotionally challenging experiences you’ll face. In this blog, we’ll explain how to care for your skin after breast surgery and support the healing of scars, so your skin can recover as smoothly as possible.

While scars will naturally fade a little over time, there are ways to actively support the healing process. With the right care, you can significantly improve how your skin recovers and how visible your scar becomes. Learn everything about scars and scar treatments in the free Scar guide.

Start applying a good scar cream immediately

The key to a less visible scar: apply a hydrating cream. Your skin needs moisture in order to heal as well as possible.

But note: applying just any so-called ‘hydrating’ cream is not sufficient. Your scarred skin is damaged, and thereby misses one of its important functions: It can no longer retain moisture. This means that moisture evaporates as quickly as it is introduced into your skin. So how can you support your skin in holding on to that moisture? Give your skin its protective layer back.

Apply a scar cream that locks in moisture and protects your skin from the outside environment. One that literally gives your skin a ‘protective barrier’. This restores your skin’s natural, moisture-retaining function.

In the short term, you may begin to see improvements such as:

  • Softened scar tissue
  • Less discomfort from ‘pulling’ sensations, and therefore less pain
  • Less discomfort from itching

Over time, you’ll notice that your scar heals more smoothly and becomes less visible.

A scar won’t disappear completely, no cream can do that. But with the right care, it can become significantly less visible.

ALHYDRAN’s effectiveness is backed by scientific research and confirmed by the experiences of our customers. People like Ms Martell have seen the results firsthand:

“I started using ALHYDRAN shortly after completing radiation treatment for breast cancer. The Radiotherapy Centre gave me some samples because Cetomacrogol had caused severe pain and itching, keeping me awake at night.
After using ALHYDRAN for several days, I tried Cetomacrogol again, just to see if ALHYDRAN was truly making the difference. The pain came back almost immediately, and the itching became so intense I nearly started hyperventilating. I rinsed it off with cold water and applied ALHYDRAN straight away. The soothing relief was instant.
No other prescribed product can compare with it. Other products only damage your skin further when used on a daily basis! Over time, the skin will heal and regain its natural oils, but right now, this fantastic product ALHYDRAN is the most important thing for me at this moment.”
– D. Martell, the Netherlands

During my breast conserving therapy I used ALHYDRAN. After 3 weeks of radiotherapy, there is absolutely no skin damage at all. A few times just a little redness but as soon as I put on the cream it disappears. I am still using ALHYDRAN with very good result.

Woman (58)

We are highly enthusiastic about ALHYDRAN scar cream. It is very effective, it helps greatly for itching, redness, damaged skin and improving scars. Price-wise, it is affordable to everyone. It is wonderful that there is also a variant with SPF 30. Damaged skin needs to be well protected from the sun!
